Yankees GM Brian Cashman says hand-signal incident outed by Keith Olbermann is ‘silly’ | NJ.com

There is no advantage to what Yankees’ coaching assistant Brett Weber was signaling during opening day and the team will not be punished, Yankees GM Brian Cashman told reporters this afternoon.

He spoke with Major League Baseball officials this morning.

On Thursday, Weber was outed by television personality Keith Olbermann, who Tweeted a photo of Weber holding four fingers up toward the batters box. Doing so is a violation of baseball operations bulletin C-4, which prohibits coaches from using hand signals to communicate pitch speeds and pitch types.
