Ex-Penn St. assistant Sandusky convicted of abuse

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — Jerry Sandusky was convicted Friday of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years, accusations that shattered the Happy Valley image of Penn State football and led to the firing of Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno.

Sandusky, a 68-year-old retired defensive coach who was once Paterno’s heir apparent, was found guilty of 45 of 48 counts.

Additional allegations of sexual assault have been made against former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. The most recent reported incidents occurring inside the Penn State football offices in 2004 – two years after Sandusky was banned from bringing children into the building.

FoxNews.com spoke the attorney of the now-19-year old accuser, who was a 12-year old summer camper in a program run by Second Mile – Sandusky’s charity aid underprivileged youth – at the time of the incident. The accuser has reportedly filed a civil suit against Sandusky, Second Mile, and Penn State.

Judge rules Penn State officials to stand trial for lying | Reuters

(Reuters) – A judge ruled on Friday there is enough evidence for two former Penn State officials to stand trial on charges of lying to a grand jury about their knowledge of alleged child sex abuse by a former coach.

NCAA to probe Penn State athletics

Penn State has learned via letter from NCAA President Mark Emmert to university president Rodney Erickson that the governing body of collegiate sports will launch an investigation of the school’s athletic programs in the wake of allegations of sexual abuse by former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky and charges of perjury against to two senior university officials, former athletic director Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, the school’s former senior vice president for business and finance.

“I am writing to notify you that the NCAA will examine Penn State’s exercise of institutional control over its intercollegiate athletics programs, as well as the actions, and inactions, of relevant responsible personnel,” Emmert wrote. “We recognize that there are ongoing federal and state investigations and the NCAA does not intend to interfere with those probes.”

(Reuters) – Penn State University considered, but rejected, cancelling Saturday’s final home game, given the fallout from a child sex abuse scandal involving current and former team coaches.

Mike McQueary Will Not Coach Saturday

Due to threats made against Penn State assistant Mike McQueary, he will not coach Saturday versus Nebraska. McQueary told a grand jury that he saw former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky having sex with a young boy in the shower of the school’s football building in 2002.
