NBA, players meet briefly; talks to resume Wednesday |

NEW YORK (AP) — Negotiators for the NBA and its players met for about two hours and will talk again Wednesday in an effort to end the lockout that has lasted nearly three months.

Both sides said neither concern nor optimism should be read into the brevity of the meeting. They simply needed time to think about what had been discussed.

Commissioner David Stern hinted that Wednesday’s session will determine when more discussions are warranted. It’s been expected there would be no talks Thursday because members of both bargaining teams will be observing the Jewish holiday, but they could resume talks before the weekend.

“They and we have both agreed that so long as there is reason to keep discussing, we will keep discussing, undeterred by the calendar or weekends or things like that,” Stern said. “We will know more after tomorrow’s session.”

Federer back to reclaim his Wimbledon crown | Reuters

(Reuters) – A Wimbledon final without Roger Federer almost seemed unthinkable 12 months ago but the ‘unthinkable’ happened last July when the most gifted player to have picked up a tennis racket discovered he was no longer on the guest list for the showpiece match at the grasscourt grand slam.

But the man who enjoyed the privilege of opening Center Court proceedings at the All England Club for seven successive years – including 2009 when Rafa Nadal was unable to defend his title – is now back to reclaim his crown.

Federer Ends Djokovic’s 43-Match Win Streak – News from The Associated Press

PARIS (AP) — No go, Djoko. It’s Roger vs. Rafa in the French Open final again.

Novak Djokovic’s perfect season and 43-match winning streak were ended by Roger Federer in the semifinals at Roland Garros. The 16-time Grand Slam champion beat the second-seeded Serb 7-6 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) Friday and will face Rafael Nadal in the final for the fourth time in six years.

“I’ve trained a lot during my whole life for these kinds of matches,” Federer said. “There was an enormous amount of pressure on Novak and he really played well.”

Five-time champion Nadal, who is one victory away from equaling Bjorn Borg’s record of six French Open titles, defeated Andy Murray 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 earlier on Court Philippe Chatrier to improve his record at Roland Garros to 44-1.

On Sunday, Nadal will try to beat Federer for the sixth time in eight Grand Slam finals.
